War Horse Film Review

“War Horse” is a story that was inspired by the First World War. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and the cast includes Jeremy Irvine as Albert Narracott, Tom Hiddleston as a charming and kind-hearted British soldier Captain Nicholls, Emily Watson as Rosie Narracott and Peter Mullan as Ted Narracott. The story retells the journey of a brave and noble war horse named Joey, and what makes this movie very unique is that the plot is in an animal’s point of view!
The story is set in Devon, South West England. It is about a special friendship between a boy, Albert Narracott and a horse, Joey. The story is about a horse named Joey who was separated his mother when he was just a foal and was sold at an auction. He was bought by Ted Narracott for thirty guineas, which at the time is facing serious financial problem. Ted came to the auction to buy a plough horse to help him plough his rocky field, but instead he buys Joey which upsets his wife, Rosie. They planned to sell Joey back to the auction but then were stopped by Albert who promised his parents that he will train Joey. After a few months of their beautiful friendship, the war started and it was the time where the Narracotts lost everything and had to sell Joey to the army. Joey was then purchased by Captain Nicholls. This is the start of Joey’s adventure in war. Will Joey and Albert meet again?
The thing that I love the most about this movie is that the music is able to control our emotions. If we pay attention closely, in every certain important scene, there will be music playing whether it’s a heart-pounding music, cheerful music and even sad and slow music that’ll make us emotional. The acting is also magnificent and I think all the actresses and actors in this movie are all blessed with such a wonderful acing talent. They’re acting made this movie much more ‘alive’ and a few scenes are very emotional that it will bring tears to your eyes. And the photography is just brilliant – it captures all the beautiful scenery like the hills and farms and camps. And I absolutely love all the wonderful costumes especially Rosie Narracott’s handmade dresses that was made by Joanna Johnston.

The film is well worth seeing. It will touch your heart and remind you to ‘be careful not to start a war’ as one of the characters in the movie had said. The film also contains a lot of inspirational quotes that we can use to reflect on ourselves. So, what are you waiting for?! Watch it and I guarantee that you’ll fall in love with this incredible movie!
